Trainee ATCO Brenna Price-Walker Earns her Licence
07 Jul 2026
A rising professional in air traffic services, Brenna Price-Walker has successfully achieved her Air Traffic Controller (ATCO) Licence, marking a significant milestone in her aviation career and a proud moment for Redhill Aerodrome.
Brenna was selected as the organisation’s second candidate to be sponsored through the prestigious Basic and Aerodrome Control training courses at Global ATS, based at Gloucestershire Airport. Her journey began on 2 February 2025, when she enrolled in the intensive programme designed to equip future controllers with the technical knowledge, decision-making skills, and communication expertise required in one of aviation’s most demanding roles.
After nearly five months of dedicated study and simulation-based training, Brenna completed the course on 27 June 2025, earning her Student ATCO Licence. This achievement marked the transition from classroom instruction to practical, real-world experience in a live operational environment.
Brenna commenced her on-the-job training at Redhill on 10 July 2025, where she began working alongside experienced controllers and engaging directly with pilots. This phase of training is widely recognised as one of the most challenging stages, as trainees must apply theoretical knowledge in real-time scenarios while ensuring the safety and efficiency of aircraft movements.
Her progress, however, was not without challenges. The winter months brought poor weather conditions and reduced aircraft movements, limiting opportunities for practical training. These factors can significantly impact the pace of development for trainee controllers, as consistent exposure to live traffic is essential for building confidence and competence.
Despite these obstacles, Brenna demonstrated resilience and determination. She successfully completed the Unit Training Plan, steadily developing the skills required to manage aerodrome operations safely and effectively.
Her hard work culminated on 22 May 2026, when she passed her Unit Endorsement and Licence Issue examination, officially earning her Air Traffic Controller Licence. This accomplishment places her among a select group of highly trained professionals entrusted with maintaining the safety of airspace operations.
Colleagues have praised Brenna’s dedication, professionalism, and adaptability throughout her training journey. Her achievement not only reflects her individual commitment but also highlights the strength of the training pathways and mentorship provided at Redhill.
While earning the licence is a major milestone, Brenna is well aware that it marks the beginning rather than the end of her development. As many in the profession note, air traffic control is a career of continuous learning, where experience, judgement, and skill are honed over time.
“Now the real learning begins,” a senior colleague remarked, underscoring the importance of ongoing growth in maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety.
Brenna’s success serves as an inspiration to future trainees and reinforces Redhill’s commitment to developing the next generation of air traffic control professionals.
Congratulations, Brenna, on a remarkable achievement and the start of an exciting career in air traffic control.
